The relocation, which is only a short distance from their previous location, comes as a direct response to the company’s rapid growth and the need to accommodate an expanding team.

The new office space at Mansfield Business Park offers increased capacity and modern facilities, enabling the team to continue delivering exceptional service to their clients while supporting their ambitious growth trajectory.

UKSE Group hits the road in May 2023

UKSE Group is delighted to visit this years Water Equipment Show at the Telford International Centre (11th May). Billed as the ideal event for those operating within the Water and Wastewater Industries, showcasing a wide range of equipment and services that are available from many of the UK's leading manufacturers, suppliers and contractors.

UKSE Group has been providing mechanical and electrical engineers on short, long and permanent contracts to the water industry for over ten years. Our reputation across predominantly the South of England has set the bar.

UKSE share the tips we have found beneficial

F ollowing the intense heat of this year's summer in the UK, UKSE wanted to share the tips we found helpful in keeping our colleagues cool.

With temperatures soaring as high as 40°C we knew we needed to ensure our colleagues’ health was being prioritised and that they had the essential tools to make working in this heat safe and practicable.

We made sure we were offering the following:

Rescheduling work to cooler times of the day.
Providing more frequent rest breaks and introducing shade to rest areas.
Introducing shade in areas where individuals are working.
Providing free access to cool drinking water.
Encouraging the removal of personal protective equipment (PPE) when resting to help encourage heat loss.
Educating workers about recognising the early symptoms of heat stress.

We are thankful for the hard work of our colleagues, clients and suppliers through these last few months and that we were able to keep everyone as safe as possible.

The UKSE comms team recently sat down with Managing Director, Martin Wood to discuss UKSE Group, current operations, the pandemic and much more...

Whilst we are all riding the same rollercoaster due to the current situation, it’s really important for businesses of all sizes to keep a clear focus on the impacts, and most importantly, having a positive atmosphere within the working environment and keeping staff morale high.

Looking at our strategy for the coming year and the hurdles we have had and are facing, we can say that we are lucky to be able to continue operating with all non-essential operational staff working from home and have been since March 23rd 2020 and always following Government guidelines. Our engineers and site teams continue to carry out essential works and maintaining sites such as sewage treatments plants and key worker sites.

We are lucky that business is stable at UKSE right now, and we thank all our customers, operational and engineering site teams for continuing their hard-work; with a huge thank you to all of our site teams for adapting to change, in an uncertain time whilst working socially distanced.

Working and communicating has changed from what we are used to and looking forward, we feel that a good part of 2021 will be working from home with minimal trips to offices and, of course, to clients and sites. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. The way to look at it is to remember that technology and the way we work evolves and will continue to do so. There are many pros and cons, but the important thing is to remember that it’s all about adaptability.

Video conference call have been an essential part of the new way of working and we structure these at 8am and 12pm every day for all staff to join. This is important for the communication in a fast-paced services business that is supplying fundamental engineering works.

We have encouraged staff who are working from home to ‘walk when the sun shines’ this helps promote:

a) Their mental health - getting outdoors will aid in a more focused and clearer mind

b) Their overall general health and to exercise or have a good stretch away from sitting at a desk; and

c) To get some Winter sun when it does shine for some good natural Vitamin D!

Keeping a positive attitude within the business and for the staff is incredibly important, we are really lucky at UKSE to have the staff we do, they have all really pulled together to assist each other and we all care for our staff and their welfare. We have had the opportunity to review the business, its costs how we position ourselves and the strategies required for organic growth post this pandemic!

Just remember, normality is scheduled to resume soon. It’s just about keeping your morale high.

Many of us are struggling to maintain our mental wellbeing during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, some of us may find even these longed-for changes difficult for our mental health.

The idea of coming out of lockdown when the scientific debate is ongoing may also be worrying for those of us who are more at risk from the virus or living with mental health problems.

We at UKSE Group want to share a useful guide from Hampshire County Council for managers, which provides an overview of the range of external health and wellbeing support available.

Remember: things might feel hard right now, but this situation is unusual. And it won't last forever.

In light of the recent news concerning Covid-19, the new variant, dubbed Covid-20 and the new tier 4 it’s important to continue to make safety your number one priority.

UKSE Group will continue to adhere to Government guidelines when it comes to PPE and face-covering. We know that keeping our staff and customers safe is our number one priority.

As our teams continue to work whether in lockdown or tiered regulations, wearing a mask in areas where sufficient distance is not feasible (and PPE not necessary) is mandatory.

We are all in this together and need to take actions and procurations when and where we can. So, follow our example and take our lead and make sure that you keep safe during these tough times.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health day marks an important date in the calendar for people worldwide. For me it is a day for reflection, also a day to highlight the importance of mental health and reach out to provide any help possible.

Like most people, I have been personally affected, as colleagues and friends have suffered from mental health with tragic consequences. It is with this in mind that UKSE makes special effort to reach out to anyone who falls under our umbrella (and beyond) to offer any support we can.

We know mental health issues come in many forms and can be complicated to understand, diagnose and therefore talk about.

In 2017 we launched a ‘Time to Talk’ campaign – which encouraged all staff members to seek out a member of management if they were feeling pressure at work, which was compounded by mental health issues. It is with this hope we wanted UKSE Group to become a work place where an approachable and understanding leadership team, could be approached at any time to provide help.

Essentially mental health is a hidden illness – if there’s one message to take home from this blog, it’s ‘please talk’ – to friends, family, colleagues, fellow sufferers (it doesn’t matter who) it is only by opening up to the challenges we face, can we seek to begin the journey of recovery.

There's nothing better in a service-led business than a good ‘thank you for all your recent assistance’ from a key customer!

The project manager continued to describe how our engineers have been both knowledgeable and adaptable to the current situation and how our hybrid model also assisted their budget.

We completed the mechanical installation and remedial works on a number of Thames Water Utilities sites, where we have worked across key sites and projects.

Our teams of engineers were strategically scheduled on various sites with confined space equipment in vehicles. The efficient scheduling and tailoring of our services meant the customer had safe working distance within our teams and crew of fitters and semi-skilled.

Where UKSE also benefitted is assisting delivering the project to budget by our competitive model and day rates.

We continue to go back and complete phase two of this project in early October where we will also assist the lifting operations.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, there has of course been a huge rise in the number of remote workers in all industries and sectors. Due to this, the amount of individuals using and becoming aware of online video platforms, such as Zoom has considerably increased.

For UKSE Group Limited this has been an integral system to create an effective method of communication during these uncertain times. It has been critical for the UKSE Group to stay in frequent contact with the team; plus manage contracts, engineers and keep up the great levels of communication, we pride ourselves on.

Additionally, and as importantly, UKSE has been using Zoom calls to stay in contact with current & potentially new clients. This has ensured that contract management & sales has been able to continue, where possible, and decisions have been made quickly and efficiently, as they would have prior to COVID-19.

At UKSE we embrace any form of technology that improves our efficiencies and improves our customer service. However, we will also look forward to the day that we can meet clients, suppliers and prospects for a coffee and a biscuit.

Boris Must Be Bold!

UKSE welcomes the news that Boris Johnson is reassuring the British public that we will not return to the austerity of 10 years ago. In order to not return to huge austerity the government will have to be bold, borrowing between £500 Billion to £1 Trillion and then spend it very wisely on public services.

UKSE believes the alternative and cost of not doing so would see vast unemployment, thus costing the government and in turn the taxpayer much more in the long term and would have a huge impact on society and mental health.

We're not out of the COVID-19 woods yet, however a bold approach to infrastructure investment over the next 5 years will make a dramatic difference to our recovery.

UKSE is delighted to report a strong trading year 2019-2020.

With a 30% increase in turnover and a pre-tax profit of 7% the company is looking to build on this solid base for the year ahead of us.

Directors cited the investment in new personnel, move of head office to Delta Business Park and the exceptional consistent service levels as primary reasons for the overall business performance. Operational Update in response to COVID-19 UK Pandemic.

Dear Valued Customer/Partner/Supplier,

During these challenging times, UKSE are closely monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak and adhering to advice provided by the Government. This communication is intended to update you on the operational commitment of UKSE and our response.

On the 13th March UKSE actioned its Business Continuity Plan (BCP) which we thank staff and IT partners for a seamless operation.

We have now implemented the following:

Health, Safety & Welfare

The health and safety of our staff, and yours, is our primary concern and we are also committed to giving you the best support that we can under the circumstances.

Staff

All employees who are able to work from home are now doing so. Client meetings and

travel have been stopped, we are using online communication tools to stay connected and ensure we are available to you should you need us. Staff are available via email, call or zoom conference calls.

Current Projects

At present projects in the UK are continuing where site access is permitted, but progress will certainly slow down as the Governmental restrictions increase. We expect that new projects will no longer commence until the COVID-19 lockdown period has ended. As a contingency measure, we are planning ahead for the possibility that some or all construction sites will be closed by clients or the Government at some stage.

Our Strong Network

At UKSE we have developed a great network of customers, partners and suppliers since 2012 and we want nothing more than a smooth operation for the above, once this period is over. To ensure this, we encourage communication for support during these uncertain times.

Support

This unprecedented period of time will pass. UKSE has a robust business model that can limit the impact of such a period.

UKSE are available to assist and support wherever we can; except of course where we would be at risk to themselves or others. Should you feel there is anything we can do to assist please make contact.

This week the UKSE team has been working at a manufacturing plant, removing cable tray, dismantling lights and junction boxed off of a gantry and putting a new one back in.

Not the most aesthetically pleasing images but a project like this at a manufacturing plant is essential for the operation to continue.

Two New Recruits to Launch 2020

UKSE Group Ltd is thrilled to announce the additions of Jack Galliver and Claire Hobbs to the Team.

Jack joins UKSE from a network engineering background, managing site teams. Jacks role is Contract Sales Co-ordinator and will work alongside Martin and Dominic to strengthen current partnerships and explore new opportunities throughout the UK.

Claire joins as Team Leader of the Contract Engineering Department with a strong background in sourcing and allocating contracts in a variety of sectors in including IT, Finance and Engineering.

Jack comments, "This is a great time to be joining UKSE, with the focus being on sustained growth in 2020. This opportunity allows me to learn from an experienced Senior Management team and help drive the company forward."

October 30th-31st, UKSE Group Ltd attended the Xylem sponsored Global Supplier Conference and Charity Event at the Etihad Stadium, home of the most recent Premier League champions Manchester City, the official global partner of Xylem.

The two-day conference focussed on the theme of “Partnering for Innovation” reflecting Xylem’s commitment to work closely with vendor partners to create innovative solutions and approaches to address global water challenges, while providing key opportunities to network and interact with industry stakeholders.

Attendees also had the chance to learn more about Manchester City and how the football team is committed to making a difference in people’s lives, including partnering with Xylem to raise awareness of global water issues. Such initiatives will form part of UKSE Group's charity work in 2020, alongside a focus on mental health.

Martin Wood Opts for EV

In an effort to set an example, Martin Wood UKSE GROUP Ltd Managing Director has opted for an electric vehicle (EV) moving forward.

UKSE GROUP Ltd has long pushed environmental credentials with a campaign for reducing plastics usage throughout the company and a concerted support for the charity Water Aid.

Martin comments, "I'm in the position to be able to make a choice like this and as a lifelong supporter of eco-initiatives this was a no brainer."

Martin continues, "It's taking a little getting used to, but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of electric charging points available. In addition to the smoother drive, this was actually an easy decision for me."

Less pollution: By choosing to drive an EV you are helping to reduce harmful air pollution from exhaust emissions. An EV has zero exhaust emissions5.

Renewable energy: If you use renewable energy to recharge your EV, you can reduce your greenhouse gas emissions even further. You could recharge your EV from your solar PV system during the day instead of from the grid. Another idea is to purchase GreenPower from your electricity retailer. Then, even if you recharge your EV from the grid, your greenhouse gas emissions are reduced.

Eco-friendly materials: There is also a trend towards more eco-friendly production and materials for EVs. The Ford Focus Electric is made up of recycled materials and the padding is made out of bio based materials. The Nissan Leaf’s interior and bodywork are partly made out of green materials such as recycled water bottles, plastic bags, old car parts and even second hand home appliances.
